Personal Information
How did you and your partner meet?
We met in 1998 when we were respectively 15 and 19 at a sport event through a common friend. Even though we were attracted to each other, nothing happened at that time. 10 years later we got in touch through social media, and one morning while we were on our way to work we came across each other. Later during the day, Jean-Marc sent me a message and asked me out.
From there, things happened very quickly. A year later we were married and moved to Australia. Our beautiful daughter Emily was born 3 years ago and that’s when we decided to plan our religious wedding ceremony. Finally, on the 10th August 2016, we got married in the ever-so beautiful Mauritius surrounded by our dearest family and friends.
How did your partner propose?
A few years ago we were on holidays and staying at a beautiful resort in Mauritius. Sitting by the pool, my partner randomly said that this would be a gorgeous place to get married.
Later, we went out for dinner and afterwards he suggested we walk on the beach to get back to our room. We got near the jetty and there stood 2 musicians waiting and as they saw us coming they started playing one of my favourite songs from The Turtles.
At the same time, he got down on one knee and asked if I would be willing to spend the rest of my life with him. I was surprised but delighted and said yes of course!
We decided to get married the following year but had to postponed for 2016 as we welcomed our daughter 10 months later.
How did you choose your wedding gown?
I wanted my wedding dress to be the most beautiful dress I’ll ever wear. After several trips to bridal shops in Melbourne and still no luck in finding what I really wanted for my wedding, I started looking online for a bridal gown designer to create a custom dress. I came across Leah Da Gloria’s designs and decided to book an appointment with her. A few weeks later I was flying to Sydney to meet Leah!
She showed me designs that she had made before and all of the delicate laces available. I remember leaving there and saying to myself, “She has to be the one creating my wedding gown.” Her designs were so modern and magical. From there, I took regular trips to Sydney for fittings and every single time I was left amazed at what she had done since our last meeting. She was so easy to work. She truly created my perfect dress.
What sort of style did you envision for your wedding day?
I knew from the beginning that I wanted something very glamorous – a wedding filled with lace and peonies. Unfortunately, peonies are not available in Mauritius, but thankfully, the beautiful Lexia who did our wedding cake and decorated the reception venue made sure we had them there on the day. She personally ordered them from Holland! We wanted the style to be very classy and with a color palette of blush, ivory and gold.
What was your favorite moment from the day?
My favourite moment from the day would have to be our first dance! We both took dancing lessons for about 3 months and had someone choreograph our first dance – it was the tango version of Sway, sung by Michael Buble.
If you could do it all over again, what would you change?
Honestly… nothing. We had a ball planning our dream wedding and on the day itself, everything was just how we wanted it to be. We can look back and say that it was the perfect day.
Any tips that you can give to future brides?
Remember that it is your special day. Do the things that will make you happy and will give you beautiful memories to cherish.
Anything else?
Sadly, Jean-Marc’s dad passed away 6 weeks before the wedding, so we thought of cancelling the firework display we had initially planned. However, we decided to go on with it and it turned out to be the highlight of the party. Our guests were pleasantly surprised.
