The Details
How did you and your partner meet?We went to high school together! We were always friends but didn’t start going out until years later. How did he propose? We had a great holiday driving around Tasmania in a little camper van in autumn 2015. Before our holiday, Ryan had secretly contacted a lovely gentleman we know who is a retired jeweler and together they had designed an engagement ring, which is very special. Ryan carried the ring all over Tasmania waiting for the right moment, and proposed at sunset at a place called Beauty Point on the Tamar River. After that, it seemed like the right thing to do was to crack open a Tassie sparkling wine and eat too many oysters. What’s your most important piece of advice for creating and maintaining a strong relationship?Look after each other and be kind. Tell us about your wedding gown and how you chose it: My dress “Shani” was by Wendy Making at Brides on Collins. My Mum and I had a nice time together looking for dresses after I had done a bit of research online, and I was surprised at how relaxed the whole process was. I love having a dress by an Australian designer, and it was so nice that I was also able to meet Wendy herself when I was in her store. I have no idea how to properly describe a wedding dress but it was beautiful and just a bit different with amazing bold lace and a racer neck. I was comfortable and happy in it all day. What sort of style did you envision for your wedding day (in terms of venue & décor + styling)?
Allira & Ryan McCall
We wanted the decor to fit the old-fashioned Fairfield Boathouse, as well as the bush and river setting it’s in. We had a few ideas which our stylists Vicky and Gabby from Gene and Peta helped us to bring together. They created the most amazing arch of eucalypt foliage which we were married by, and had special decorative touches all around the venue. What was your favourite moment from the day? The whole day was so happy. Being married by our good friend, Dave was pretty special! He did the most incredible job, and it was so much more personal to have a friend do it. We laughed a lot. Any DIY décor elements? Yes, Ryan designed the invitations himself, which fit the style of the venue perfectly. And I spent way too long making bunting. If you could do it all over again, what would you change? Absolutely nothing, other than to make sure we got a ride in the rowboats, which Fairfield Boathouse let us use – our guests seemed to be having a very good time.
Any tips that you can give to future brides?
Try not to fall down the steps of the restaurant the night before your wedding like I did. It makes
tackling stairs on your way to the altar in high heels very nerve racking.
